INSPIRATION: HALLOWEEN🧟

Team TDC loves a bit of theatre. Taking our cues from the most dramatic of all annual holidays, we concocted a Halloween sipper inspired by two of horror’s greatest scientific minds: Dr. Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll.

Much like the latter, this is a drink of two halves: spicy rye and punchy bitters, offset by seasonally sweet pumpkin syrup and smooth cognac.

You could call it pumpkin spice for the not-so-basic!

THE DRINK: Pumpkin Spiced Sazerac 🎃

25ml Woodford Rye
25ml Hennessy
10ml roasted pumpkin syrup*
2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters

Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass over ice. Strain into a chilled beaker (or rocks glass) with an absinthe rinse.

Garnish with an orange twist and sprig of thyme.

* To create your own pumpkin syrup, roast pumpkin in the oven until soft, then blitz with equal parts sugar and water. Leave to cool and strain.

HOW WE SHOT IT 📸

What’s a horror flick without a little suspense?

We put our potion centre stage and backlit the orange liquid to give it a spooky (but delicious) glow. Waves of heavy smoke were given extra depth thanks to a perspex surface that bounced light back through the scene.

Lurking in the background, a roll of semi-transparent paper saves the sazerac from creeping hands… for now.
